The female breasts are often considered the most important symbol of woman and of feminine sexuality. And so it follows from this that most women are dissatisfied with this part of their bodies and often feel less feminine because of improper shape and size of their breasts.
One of the most mentioned and performed plastic surgery treatments is breast augmentation or breast enlargement using implants which has restored self-confidence in many women.
Breast enlargement – for whom do we recommend this procedure?
We recommend breast augmentation for all those who have underdeveloped, genetically small sized breasts, as well as whose breast size has shrunk due to significant weight loss or breastfeeding. In the latter cases, a breast lift is often needed as well if the breasts have sagged considerably.
Breast augmentation is performed not only because of underdevelopment or shape problems, but also to correct asymmetrical or sagging breasts.
Before breast augmentation
During our first meeting, we pay special attention to your expectations and to your physical characteristics. We discuss with you in detail the relevant surgical techniques and processes which could meet your specific needs.
We choose the most appropriate implant for you, of which the size and shape must be adjusted to suit your existing glandular structure, the shape of your breasts, your body height, the size and symmetry of your chest, and to the quality and thickness of your skin and tissues under your skin.
Implants which are used today are filled with a cohesive gel containing silicone gel. The shape of these implants can be either round and spherical or anatomical (drop-shaped).
During the consultation, the plastic surgeon also specifies where the incisions would be made: into the fold under the breast (this is most common), into the fold of the underarm/armpit, or into the outer edge of the areola. This all depends on your individual anatomical characteristics, as well as on your expectations as to which surgical technique the plastic surgeon chooses in your case.
The insertion of the breast implant can be done behind the glandular structure of the breast or partially behind the breast muscle. Generally we use the latter placement method of inserting behind the breast muscle in cases of thinner skinned women with smaller glandular structures because this way the breast enhancement would be less noticeable.
During the initial consultation, we must also clarify if you have any kind of serious health problems (diabetes, varicose veins, etc.). These illnesses influence the preparation of the surgery and can increase the risk, therefore the operating plastic surgeon must know about any such issues you may have. Before breast augmentation, some preventive health and breast examinations (for example mammography) must be undergone for the sake of your health.
What happens during the breast augmentation?
We always carry out breast augmentation procedures in an operating room equipped with modern, reliable equipment, and a team of professionally prepared and experienced doctors and assistants. At our clinic, we use “monoblock” structured implants, which are filled with a cohesive gel made by the most modern techniques. Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia and requires approximately 1,5 – 2 hours.
After breast augmentation
Following breast augmentation, usually one night must be spent at the clinic in one of our comfortable rooms and you must wear a special bra (generally for 6 weeks). The surgical area can be painful for a few days, which can be minimized with pain medication.
We remove the stitches in the second week after the breast operation. Gentle care must be given to the breast area for the first month following the procedure avoiding physical work and strenuous activities. Approximately 2 – 3 months are needed after the breast augmentation for the breast to reach its final, feminine full shape.
